Yarn Acquisition

I just got back from the LYS. My dad gave me a gift certificate for my birthday since they were all out of the yarn I wanted, and they just got in more. So, I have 4 skeins from my dad of Manos #43, 4 skeins from my mother and step-fathere, and one skein from my friend Gabby. Gabby shows what love is. She is a great friend. They were out of the color at the BDB on Speedway (my mother had bought it all), so she went up to the store on Ina. That is really far away from her place. And she doesn't have a car. That's a true friend!. That gives me a grand total of 9 skeins!! That means 1424 yards! That is 3726 feet of 100% wool!! I could go into inches, but that would make me to giddy to type. Wow. I am excited. I cast on for my jacket. I am adapting several differnet patterns and combining them, but basicaly think of something like this but long enough to reach mid-calk or even ankles, and with a hood. I am excited. No idea when it is going to be finished, but I am very excited.

Holiday Wishes

Step One
- Make a post to your LJ/blog with a list of ten holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and LJ/blog-related ("I'd love a icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for Harry Potter on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want. Keep the 'non-tangibles' to a minimum...it's hard to get world peace into an envelope, after all. We all know we're good folk. Let's just be about the STUFF for this.

- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ/blog, or link to this post so that the joy will spread.

Step Two
- Surf around your friends list to see who has posted a list. And now here's the important part:

- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

- You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy.

- There are no guarantees with this project, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's day by granting a wish for something they really want.

1. Manos del Uruguay color #43
2. letter's from all my friends, or e-mails or something, just updates on how everyone is, esp. the people I don't hear from a lot. Or even new friends.
3. cute socks (I love socks. toe socks, knitted socks, colorful socks, any socks! Socks are just fun. You have a bad day, you put on a pair of pretty socks, and they just make you feel good)
4. the rest of the _Folk_ serise...Folk Mittens and Knitting in Estonia
5. .....you know, I am pretty easy to get along with...I am not totaly sure I can finish this list out. I mean, I am sure there are things that I want, but nothing that I can really vocalize. Or nothing that can fit into an envelope. I suppose I could just say, go to my Amazon wishlist, but thoes are things that yes, I want, but not like, "oh, these are really importnat". Maybe that it is. What is really important? Maybe I am just in my usual birthday funk, maybe I am just stressed and don't care any more because graduation is comming up and that has burned me out. I don't know.

OK people, feel free to finish out the list. There are 5 more things to put, so comment. Then I will finish out the list.

Charts

Well, I am on line 4 of the charts. They were a bit complicated, but once I figures out that you read them back and forth, like a 's', then it got a bit easier. But they are small, and the charted notations are hard to tell apart, so I scaned them into my computer, blew it up, and colored it in. Now, each chart notation is a different color. I have two differnt colored ones, in case I mark up one, or decide that one is easier to read than the other (each copy is colored a differnt way). When it blew up, the lines got a bit faint, and blurry, so I traced them and that helped a little, but let's hope the blurry doesn't cause a problom. It's not blurry in an I-can't-read-them sort of way, but in a they-look-like-my-percription-needs-to-be-updated sort of way. I also can't find my favorite cable needle. Grr. Oh well, three day weekend, I will find it, and I will work on my vest some more. And my bag. And the knitted x-mas/Yule gifts for people why oh why did I decide to knit everyone a gift in October?!?

Wow! I'm popular!!

More than 500 hits to my site!! COOL!! I am very excited about this!!

And in other exciting news, I am also going to embark on my vest. It is going to used steeks and charts, two things that I have never done before. I am not a big fan of charts. They confuse me. So far, every pattern that I have that has used charts has also had line directions, which I prefer. I am also a little freaked out about steeking. I am hoping that I have that wrong, and I won't need to steek. I mean, what if I do it wrong? Then it will unravel completly and the whole garment will be destroyed!!

Wish me luck!
