The End Of The Yarn?
Being my last day with internet, I decided to try and catch up a little on my blogs. THen I noticed Knitty had a new issue up. Gabby says she will print it out and mail it to me, but still...anyway, I saw the link to the article about how the "fad" of knitting is dying...let me tell you, nothing could be farther from the truth in Peace Corps-The Gambia. Many of the volunteers knit, and many more want to learn. We are trying to coordinate a URD Stitch 'N Bitch (kind of complicated when you are spread over 50 km). Stephanie told me last nite she saw some cloth with balls of yarn printed on it. If she finds it again, she is getting it for me.
The only problom here is the lack of supplies. There is yarn, but it is cheap acrylic, and doesn't come in many colors. Getting needles is very hard. Books and patterns is impossible. So we depend on the kindness of strangers (hence Gabby and her printer). But you have all the PC people who knit, and are in a place for 2 years where they can't buy books. So of course the sales drop off. Just wait until I get back to the States!
